Eldama Ravine Member of Parliament (MP) Musa Sirma, who is also the Chairperson for Baringo MPs, has dispelled rumors that there was division among Baringo Members of Parliament, after the recent hotly contested senatorial nomination for United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Speaking to the press at Kabarnet town, Monday, Sirma noted that the current disagreement was healthy in politics, but should not be interpreted to mean that they are not united.
The MP was referring to recent public remarks by two of his colleagues, which has seen MPs Reuben Kiborek (Mogotio) and William Kamket (Tiaty) on one side and Joseph Makilap (Baringo North) and his Baringo South counterpart Charles Kamuren on the other side.
He noted that despite their divergent views on who should have won the primaries held on September 20 this year, they will drum up support for UDA’s Kiprono Chemitei for him to win in the forthcoming by-election slated for November 27.
“We are still united and will campaign for our party nominee,” the Eldama Ravine MP said.
He commended residents and aspirants for conducting themselves peacefully during the nominations while calling for the same to be replicated during campaign period and after the elections.
Sirma said politics will come and go but the most important thing is the unity of the people and their leaders.
He urged his colleagues to engage respectfully and bring together all communities living in the county because it is their responsibility.
The senatorial by-elections have attracted eight aspirants including KANU Chairman Gideon Moi, who is expected to square it out with the UDA flag bearer.
Among others who have shown interest include independent candidate Daisy Kimosop, Benjamin Chebon who will be vying on The New Democratic Party (TND) and Daniel Kirui (Umoja wa Maendeleo Party).
However, confirmed candidates will be known,Thursday, after the aspirants present their papers and qualify to vie.
