By D, KNA

Mrs. Simaton Mwiti, Spouse to the South Imenti Constituency Legislator, Dr. Shadrack Mwiti, , yesterday, spearheaded a community empowerment initiative in Igoji East Ward, aimed at rehabilitating men from Kathigu village and its environs, who have largely been affected by jigger infestations.

In her effort to restore dignity and improve livelihoods, Mrs. Mwiti, accompanied by other community leaders, donated essential items, including blankets, shoes, and clothing to the affected individuals.

The victims were also taught ways of maintaining their hygiene, which is one of the sure ways of eliminating the pests.

“I urge you to ensure that you clean your feet with the disinfectants that we have given you today and more so clean your houses thoroughly. This way, you will ensure the jiggers do not multiply,” said Ms. Mwiti.

The initiative also included an economic empowerment strategy, where she donated piglets to the rehabilitated men.

“This is the kind of empowerment that we need to embrace. By the end of the day, we want to ensure that every resident has his own pig, and this will help us develop economically,” said Mrs. Mwiti.

She encouraged beneficiaries to share piglets with their neighbors once the animals reproduce, fostering a ripple effect of economic growth and self-reliance within the community.

Residents were urged not to view the initiative as political, with Mrs. Mwiti emphasizing that her sole purpose is to uplift the common mwananchi through sustainable development and community solidarity.

She said her team will make follow-ups with the beneficiaries, to ensure they were living up to the expectations

The program was welcomed by local leaders and residents as a timely intervention, addressing both health and economic challenges in the region.
