Youth warned against drugs, illicit brews and crime

Nyandarua County Commissioner Abdirisaak Jaldesa has cautioned youth against high consumption of illicit brews and drugs and substance abuse, saying they were a major contributor to the rising cases of insecurity in the region.

Jaldesa at the same time regretted the rise in cases of gender-based violence, livestock thefts, and burglary and called for concerted efforts to tackle the vices.

The CC spoke at Geta Stadium in Kipipiri Constituency when he led residents and leaders in celebrations to mark this year’s Madaraka Day fete.

On the safety of learners in school, the administrator said a meeting has been called involving all education stakeholders to discuss ways to avert cases of students’ unrest as happened at Utumishi Academy recently, where 16 students died in a night dormitory inferno.

Similar sentiments were made by Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Badilisha, who underscored the need for education stakeholders to be proactive in tackling challenges facing institutions of learning.

The governor’s speech was read by the County CECM for Roads, Transport, and Energy, Cicilia Kiria.
