Uasin Gishu rolls out Stima Mashinani Phase Two

The County Government of Uasin Gishu County has launched Phase Two of the Stima Mashinani programme in Ainabkoi Sub-County to expand rural electrification and improve livelihoods through enhanced access to electricity.

The programme, launched by Uasin Gishu County Governor Jonathan Bii, is expected to benefit more than 1,200 residents through 22 ongoing electricity connectivity projects across the county.

Speaking during the launch, Governor Bii said the initiative seeks to transform the livelihoods of residents by increasing electricity access in rural areas.

“We are committed to ensuring that every village gets connected to electricity because power connectivity opens opportunities for businesses, education, security and improved living standards for our people,” said Bii.

The governor noted that improved electricity access would also spur economic growth by enabling small businesses and enhancing service delivery in rural communities.

County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Anthony Sitienei said the county government was focused on fast-tracking implementation of the projects to ensure residents benefit within the projected timelines.

“These projects are part of the county government’s commitment under Nguzo Number 7 development blueprint to expand energy access and ensure no community is left behind in development,” said Sitienei.

Sitienei added that the Stima Mashinani initiative was key to bridging the infrastructure gap in rural areas and promoting equitable development across all wards in the county.

The county government reaffirmed that the Stima Mashinani initiative remains a key pillar in improving infrastructure and accelerating socio-economic development across Uasin Gishu County.

During the tour, the county delegation visited several project sites, including Greystone Village in Tarakwa Ward, Koitebes Village and Emgwen Village in Cheptiret/Kipchamo Ward, as well as Kewet in Ainabkoi/Olare Ward, where residents are expected to benefit from the rural electrification programme.

Residents in the targeted areas welcomed the initiative, saying improved electricity connectivity would enhance business opportunities, education and security in their communities.

The launch was also attended by Youth and Sports CECM Robert Kemei, Chief Officer for Climate Change and Energy Mark Some, and Director of Energy Dr Silas Leting.
