FKF commend government for sports development

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Branches in Central and Eastern Regions have hailed the Kenya Kwanza Government for its huge investment in sports infrastructure and talent development.

They said the government’s unprecedented focus on construction and upgrading of sports facilities across the country was testament to an administration keen on grassroots talent development and professionalisation of soccer.

Led by Eastern Region FKF NEC Member Charles Njagi, officials from various branches said investment will go a long way in positioning the country as a regional soccer powerhouse.

Njagi asked young people not to be misled to focus on the political discourse surrounding the “one term and two terms” narratives, saying they were not bound to bring any change.

Speaking during a dinner gala in Embu Town yesterday evening, where various grassroots teams, coaches and referees across the two regions were awarded for their exemplary performance, Njagi asked young people to shift their focus from ‘mechanics of power’ to results and achievements.

“We must change the conversation. Let us stop the discussion of one term, what will help us is whatever the government is investing for our young people,” he pleaded.

He said the kind of investment the government was making in construction and renovation of stadiums across the country to develop the sports economy was enough to warrant the administration another term in office.

“We have a stadium constructed or in progress in almost every county in Kenya and if we have a reason to vote for this government, it is because of this kind of investment,” he noted.

Meru County Executive Committee (CEC) in charge of Youth Affairs and Sports Elias Murega echoed Njagi’s sentiments, saying President Ruto’s Government had supported sports more than all the previous governments.

He specifically gave President Ruto a thumbs up for the overwhelming support he gave Harambee Stars team during the recently concluded CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN).

“We must learn to appreciate the positive actions of the government in the same way we want to criticise it for the failures,” he said.
