Police in Endebess Sub County of Trans Nzoia have arrested a suspect believed to be the main culprit behind the murder of a 17-year-old form-four student.
The lifeless body of Rael Cheptoek, a student at Nai Girls Secondary School believed to have been murdered on the morning of Thursday, January 29, 2026 was discovered by students lying in a nearby farm at Mowlem area, Kiptogot location, Trans Nzoia County.
After raising an alarm, police officers from Endebess Police Station rushed to the scene, which was 700 metres from Rael’s home, where they found the body of the teenager bearing signs of assault.
After documenting the scene, the body of the deceased was transferred to Kijana Wamalwa Teaching and Referral Hospital for preservation pending autopsy, as detectives started joining dots in a bid to unravel the killers behind the crime.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), preliminary investigations established that Rael had left home at 5:45am for school which is barely a kilometre away.
However, she never made it, only for her lifeless body to be discovered around 6:30am by fellow students heading to class.
Working on intelligence leads, detectives trailed the suspect identified by DCI as Mike Wabwire Semera to the Kenya–Uganda Suam Border, where a joint operation with Ugandan authorities led to his arrest after he fled across to the neighboring country.
The suspect was escorted back to Kenya and he is being held at Endebess Police Station, undergoing processing ahead of arraignment, even as detectives dig deeper to establish the motive behind the heinous act.
