Boresha Barabara initiative set to transform Githunguri town

The Boresha Barabara programme, an infrastructural development programme initiated by Kiambu County Governor, Governor Kimani Wamatangi, targets to rehabilitate, grade, and murram key access roads and install drainage systems across the county in order to improve connectivity, market access and economic growth.

The initiative targets to improve at least 1,500 kilometers of roads including tarmacking, cabro paving and grading. This county-wide rehabilitation operates on a ward-by-ward basis.

Githunguri constituency, has benefited in various recent projects and ongoing upgrades under the Boresha Barabara scheme that have uplifted the lives of people in different wards in the constituency.

In Township ward, Githunguri sub-county, the initiative is grading, gravelling and doing compaction works on slaughter Road. This project is set to improve road accessibility, enhance movement for residents and businesses, and boost economic activities in the ward through better all-weather connectivity.

According to Julie Waweru, the chief officer of the initiative, this is an opportunity for Githunguri sub-county to move forward, “If we were meant to stay in one place, we would have roots instead of feet and we are giving Githunguri the roads to move forward.”

Kiawawatu Road and Matathia Road are also currently benefitting from the initiative. On Matathia Road, there is grading and tarmacking of the Kimende-Matathia-escarpment section that is currently underway and the construction has progressed to the Kairia Matathia location.

In Kiawawatu Road and its feeder roads, there have been similar rural and access road development initiatives under the programme tackling road rehabilitation, grading, and drainage excavation across the wider Githunguri sub-county and other areas.

Ms. Waweru reveals that the initiative of the scheme in Githunguri apart from the ongoing upgrades and bridges and culvert construction is also to utilize local labor through transparent local hiring to benefit the youth and residents.
