Laikipia North Member of Parliament Sarah Korere has launched peace campaigns aimed to sensitize youth ahead of next year’s general elections.
Speaking in Sirimon secondary school in Laikipia and where she commissioned a state of the art modern laboratory, the legislators said that young people were being exploited by politicians who buying them alcohol to incite disorder.
“Those who make you fight do it for their selfish personal gains, they also have their own children of your age, we have not seen them intoxicated and protesting. We should not witness such behaviours here,” said the legislator.
With some parts of the country witnessing political unrest, the MP cautioned that causing chaos at opponents’ political gatherings was illegal and emphasized that all aspirants should be given fair opportunity to present their views.
“Let everyone express their ideologies, if you don’t want to listen keep off and if it’s a must you come don’t disrupt the meeting or pit against each other for politicians,” she cautioned.
While at the same time appealing to the politicians to stop taking advantage of the youth in advancing their agenda by causing mayhem.
“I want to make a special appeal to politicians , whichever side you support either in opposition or government, stop exploiting our children, intoxicating our children will overturn you,” she warned.
She advised residents to scrutinize and elect leaders based on their ideologies and track record rather than their political affiliations or tribal considerations.
Korere strongly urged the youth not to allow themselves to be misused by politicians to disrupt rivals’ political rallies.
