The County Government of Uasin Gishu has stepped up measures to sensitize residents on safety mechanism applicable, to contain possible fire disasters in the region.
The move comes after County Fire Brigade Department, embarked on engaging stakeholders on safety awareness, vigilance, and preventive measures as part of efforts to significantly reduce fire incidents and related risks in the
Speaking during a fire safety training session in Eldoret, the Acting Director of the Fire and Rescue Section, Fredrick Serem and the Chief Fire Officer, David Sitati, said the initiative seeks to build strong partnerships between the Fire Directorate, which falls under the Department of Roads, Transport and Public Works and key institutions, including schools, law enforcement agencies, the business community, and other organizations.
The two officials noted that such collaborations are critical in creating a supportive safety network, that enhances community preparedness and promotes overall public safety.
On Thursday, the fire brigade team conducted an intensive training program for teachers and pupils from Little Lamps School at the Eldoret City Fire Station, where they emphasized the importance of fire awareness and prevention for people of all ages.
The officers educated participants on fire hazards and practical safety measures that can be applied during emergencies to help protect lives and property.
They explained that the county-led initiative is designed to empower community members with the skills to identify and report suspicious activities to relevant authorities while fostering a safer, more cohesive, and vigilant society.
“The goal is to build a community that is informed, alert, and ready to protect itself against fire-related emergencies,” said the officials.
Residents were also encouraged to make use of the County fire emergency hotline numbers — 0710 646464, 053 2061185, and 0706 389888 — to report fire incidents and ensure quick emergency response.
