The Homa Bay County government has outlined major infrastructural and service delivery achievements realised over the past year as it intensifies preparations for the 2026/2027 financial year development agenda.
Speaking at the County Assembly, Deputy Governor Danish Onyango said the administration had made notable progress in improving transport networks and access to essential public services across the county.
“We have continued to invest in infrastructure development because improved roads and bridges are critical in enhancing service delivery and supporting economic growth within the county,” Onyango said.
Among the key milestones achieved was the opening and maintenance of more than 280 kilometres of roads in various parts of Homa Bay County.
The county official noted that the road projects have significantly improved transportation, eased movement of goods and services, and enhanced connectivity among communities.
“The opening and maintenance of roads has greatly improved movement for residents, traders, and farmers across different parts of the county,” the DG added.
The county government also rehabilitated 38 access roads leading to public institutions, including schools, hospitals, and administrative offices.
According to Onyango, the initiative has boosted accessibility in remote areas that had for years experienced poor road conditions and limited service delivery.
“Improving access roads to schools, hospitals, and government offices has made it easier for residents to access essential services, especially in rural areas,” he noted.
In Ndhiwa, the county completed the construction of the Congo Bridge, a project expected to improve connectivity and ease transport for residents and traders within the region.
The DG further revealed that construction works on the Abura Bridge in Rachuonyo East were at an advanced stage. Once completed, the bridge is expected to strengthen transport links and support economic activities in the area.
“The completion of projects such as the Abura Bridge will further open up the area for business and improve connectivity for local communities,” Oyango said.
The county administration additionally acknowledged the contribution of technical staff and ongoing fieldwork programs in enhancing efficient implementation of development projects and public services.
The DG said these achievements demonstrate Homa Bay’s continued commitment to infrastructure development and improving the living standards of residents through enhanced service delivery.
