More than 1,000 households in Mayoni Ward are set to benefit from clean and reliable water following the completion of the Matungu Spring Water Project by the Kakamega County Government in partnership with the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) Programme.
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa said the project is part of his administration’s “Water at Your Doorstep” initiative, locally known as “Amatsi Khumuliango”, which seeks to expand access to safe and dependable water for households across the county.
Speaking after the completion of the project, Barasa said the investment underscores his government’s commitment to improving livelihoods through sustainable water infrastructure that responds to the needs of local communities.
“Access to clean water is not a privilege but a basic necessity. Through our ‘Water at Your Doorstep’ programme, we are bringing this essential resource closer to our people while improving their health, dignity and livelihoods,” said the Governor.
He noted that the project will spare residents, particularly women and children, the burden of walking long distances in search of water, allowing families to devote more time to education, farming and other productive activities.
Barasa said his administration will continue partnering with development agencies to implement similar projects in underserved areas as part of efforts to improve public health, support economic activities and enhance access to basic services.
The Matungu Spring Water Project adds to the growing number of water schemes being rolled out across Kakamega County under the county’s drive to ensure more residents have access to safe, reliable and sustainable water supplies.
