Narok County Commissioner, Kipkech Lotiatia, has moved to calm tensions in Majimoto Village, Naroosura Ward, in Narok South Sub-county over protracted land dispute that has caused fear among residents.
Speaking during a public Baraza that was held at Majimoto Trading Centre, Lotiatia assured residents that the government was committed to restoring peace, protecting lives and safeguarding legitimate landowners, as efforts intensify to resolve the long-standing dispute.
The meeting brought together senior government officials, local leaders and residents in a united push to find a lasting solution to the conflict that has disrupted normal life and threatened peaceful co-existence in the area.
Among leaders present were area Legislator, Kitilai Ole Ntutu and Naroosura Ward Member of the County Assembly (MCA), Daniel Pariken Kilerai, who listened to grievances from residents over insecurity, alleged land grabbing and delayed government intervention.
Residents expressed fears over rising tension in the village, saying the conflict had created uncertainty among families and increased the risk of further violence.
They appealed to the government to establish a police post in Majimoto to strengthen security and restore public confidence.
Addressing the gathering, Ole Ntutu said peace and stability were critical for development and assured residents that their security concerns would be prioritized.
He pledged support for the construction of a police post in the area and urged residents to embrace dialogue and unity as leaders work toward a lasting solution.
Lotiatia said security officers would continue maintaining law and order, while the government pursued lawful and peaceful mechanisms to resolve the land dispute.
He further noted that the government is committed to ensuring the safety of residents and protecting their rights, as efforts continue to address the root cause of the conflict.
Pariken called on residents to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate tensions further.
He emphasized reconciliation and peaceful engagement among community members as leaders collaborate with relevant authorities to address the underlying land concerns.
The Baraza concluded with renewed calls for unity, peace and cooperation, with leaders assuring residents that measures were already underway, to restore peace, stability and harmonious co-existence while preventing further conflict in Majimoto Village.
