Politicians in Nakuru County have been urged to shun divisive politics which might ignite tribal conflicts and disharmony leading to instability and instead embrace peace and unity in their political engagements.
Speaking during the commissioning of 7 classrooms at Moto comprehensive school, the Member of Parliament for Kuresoi North, Alfred Mutai, urged the community within Kuresoi and Molo sub-counties to continue fostering peace and coexistence to attract meaningful development and prosperity in the area.
“Politics which may cause ethnic and tribal divisions won’t be entertained in Nakuru county. We must continue living in harmony as we have been coexisting; we will not allow those drumming up war songs to deceive us to rise against each other. We must do clean politics free from incitement for political mileage,” said MP Mutai.
He also asked the youth to hold peaceful demonstrations whenever they needed to demonstrate but avoid destroying properties, both private and public, as such acts only deny residents services and pull back development.
The sentiments which were echoed by other leaders who attended the function, including Members of County Assembly Emmanuel Langat (Sirikwa ward) and Joseph Ngware (Molo ward), who called on youths to redirect their energy into farming to boost their income, rather than being used as tools of destruction by some politicians.
“We will make sure that we continue to coexist peacefully and in harmony doing business as one big family of Nakuru County. Nakuru is a cosmopolitan area and we should never allow a few greedy leaders to destabilize us for their own selfish political interests,” said Langat.
During the function, the MP also disbursed bursary cheques worth Sh59 million to support bright but needy learners.
