Two people died on Friday morning after a light aircraft crashed in the Kipeto area of Kajiado West Constituency.
The aircraft, operated by the Kenya School of Flying, was conducting a routine training flight when it crashed near the Kipeto Wind Power Project, killing a student pilot and a flight instructor.
Kajiado West Sub-County Police Commander Maureen Kuto confirmed the incident, saying two people were on board the aircraft.
Kuto said preliminary reports indicated that poor visibility caused by morning mist may have contributed to the crash.
She said the pilot attempted to make an emergency landing after encountering poor visibility, but the aircraft crashed in the hilly Kipeto area.
The student pilot died at the scene, while the flight instructor succumbed to injuries while being rushed to hospital, according to police.
Emergency response teams and security officers were dispatched to the scene following the accident.
Police and aviation authorities have commenced investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
