Residents of Momoniat, Legetiet, and Kosirai villages in Ngeria Ward, Kapseret Constituency, on Monday celebrated the start of water distribution from the Ngeria South Water Project, marking a major step towards ending years of water scarcity in the area.
The Ngeria South Water project is expected to provide clean and reliable water to households that have long struggled with unreliable supplies while improving sanitation, livelihoods, and overall community well-being.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, Area Member of the County Assembly Julius Sang said the project would transform daily lives for residents.
“For too long, our people, especially women and children, have walked long distances in search of water. Today, we are bringing the commodity closer to their homes. This is not just about water; it is about dignity, health, and development,” Sang said.
Area Ward Administrator Joseph Kiptoo echoed the sentiments, stressing the importance of sustained community support.
“We urge residents to take ownership of this project by protecting the infrastructure and using water responsibly. Together with the county government, we are committed to ensuring that every household in these three villages benefits,” Kiptoo said.
On her part, Engineer Tabitha Kipnyango, who oversaw technical aspects of the project, highlighted the long-term impact: “The Ngeria South Water Project has been designed to deliver a reliable and sustainable supply. By reducing the time and distance residents spend fetching water, we are freeing up hours that can be used for productive activities, including education and hygiene,” she said.
The locals welcomed the development with enthusiasm, with a resident of Momoniat village, who preferred not to be named, saying, “This water will change everything for us.” We no longer have to wake up at dawn to walk kilometers looking for a drop. Our children will stay healthier, and we can focus on farming and other work.”
The officials present also reaffirmed the devolved unit’s commitment to prioritizing essential services under the Nguzo 7 development agenda, describing the water project as another concrete step towards raising living standards across Kapseret Constituency.
According to the officials, further extensions and connections would continue in the coming weeks to reach more households.
