Water projects benefit residents of Kangatotha Ward

The Turkana County Government, through the Turkana Rural Water Services Company (TURWASCO) in collaboration with Feed the Children Kenya, has officially launched and handed over two rural water supply projects to communities in Loyoro and Napeget in Kangatotha Ward.

The projects, initiated by the county government and upgraded with support from Feed the Children Kenya, include solarisation of existing systems, installation of pipeline networks, construction of community water points and livestock troughs, and improvement of water storage facilities.

The interventions are expected to significantly improve access to safe and reliable water for households and livestock in the area.

TURWASCO Managing Director Ekaran Victorsam expressed confidence in the sustainability of the projects under the collaborative management model, noting that many water projects fail due to weak post-completion arrangements.

He said TURWASCO will play a key role in ensuring long-term operation, maintenance and reliable service delivery of the systems.

Feed the Children Kenya Country Director Jackone Otieno commended the County Executive Committee Member for Water, the county administration and local leaders for their support in implementing the projects.

He noted that strong collaboration among stakeholders was key to delivering sustainable community water solutions.

As part of the handover, TURWASCO has been mandated to lead the sustainability framework by providing technical support, operational management and a community-centred service delivery model to ensure continuous access to water for residents of Loyoro and Napeget.
