Karabok mixed secondary school soccer team has proved yet again why it’s the team to beat in this year’s Homa Bay County soccer tournament after it cruised through the zonal competition unbeaten.
The team registered consecutive clean sweeps in six matches against YalaKotieno, Nyalgosi, Nyambare, Nyagowa, and Mititi secondary school, before finally clashing with Nyang’iela secondary school soccer team in the finals.
Karabok soccer boys have now clinched ticket to the Rachuonyo Sub county stage after a 1-0 victory over Nyang’iela school in the finals.
This unmatched performance of the team lit up the ongoing Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) games at Karabok secondary school ground, where various teams too showcased their talents electrifying spectators.
The coach, Gordon Aoko Karabok said the team’s disciplined defense was the backbone of their zonal victory.
“Keeping six clean sheets in six games is no mean feat; it is a testament to the hard work and tactical maturity these boys have shown in the pitch,” Gordon said.
Frank Otieno, Karabok boy’s captain said they entered this year’s tournament with a target on their back as county champions saying the pressure only made them thirstier for a win
He added that the unity among the team helped command the backline and never lost focus in any single minute.
“The chemistry in the squad right now is unbelievable,” said David Okoth, the team’s midfielder, adding, “transitioning from defense to attack felt natural, and we are going into the next round fully confident that we can score against anyone while keeping the back locked.”
One of fans, Stella Awino expressed pure joy and love for Karabok, saying, “Karabok is giving us pure joy this year!
The energy they bring to the pitch is infectious; watching them play is so beautiful. Their flawless football makes the whole community proud, she added.
