Kenya to host Avocado Conference in Nairobi

Kenya is set to host the sixth edition of the Avocado Africa 2026 Conference and Exhibition from May 26th to 29th at the Sarit Expo Centre, bringing together key stakeholders in the avocado, fruits, and vegetables industry from across Africa and global markets.

‎ The four-day international event is expected to attract hundreds of participants, including farmers, exporters, investors, policymakers, researchers, development partners, and agribusiness leaders from Europe, Asia, the Middle East, the Americas, and various African countries.

‎ Organizers say the Conference will serve as a strategic platform for promoting trade, investment, innovation, and sustainable growth within the horticulture sector, with a major focus on the avocado value chain.

The event comes at a time when demand for avocados continues to rise globally, positioning Africa as a significant player in international fresh produce markets.

‎ The conference programme will feature high-level discussions, technical workshops, panel sessions, exhibitions, and business-to-business networking forums aimed at strengthening collaboration among stakeholders and unlocking new opportunities in the sector.

‎ Key topics expected to dominate discussions include trade expansion, sustainable avocado production, value addition, financing, climate-smart agriculture, compliance with international standards, and improved access to export markets.

‎ Speaking ahead of the event, Avocado Society of Kenya Chief Executive Officer, Muthomi Ernest, described the conference as a critical opportunity for Africa to strengthen its competitiveness in the global avocado market.

‎ “Avocado Africa 2026 is more than an exhibition—it is a gateway for trade, innovation, and investment across the avocado value chain. Africa has a unique opportunity to strengthen its position as a global supplier of high-quality fresh produce,” he said.

‎ Kenya remains one of Africa’s leading avocado exporters, supported by favorable climatic conditions, expanding agribusiness investments, improved farming practices, and increasing international demand for fresh produce.

‎ The country has in recent years witnessed significant growth in avocado farming, with thousands of smallholder farmers benefiting from export opportunities and improved market access.

‎ Industry players say the conference will also provide local producers and exporters with an opportunity to connect directly with international buyers and investors while showcasing Kenya’s potential as a regional horticultural hub.

‎ The Avocado Society of Kenya noted that it continues to champion quality standards, compliance, market access, and sustainable growth of the avocado industry in Kenya and beyond.

‎ Organizers have called upon stakeholders across the entire value chain to participate in the conference and explore emerging opportunities that can help transform the sector, boost exports, create jobs, and enhance economic growth across the continent.
